All candidates participating in commencement exercises must wear approved traditional commencement attire. In addition to the cap and gown, candidates will be allowed to wear 绳子, 腰带, and 披肩 if such items have been previously approved by the 毕业典礼 Committee. Please refer to the guidelines below for seeking appropriate approval. Unauthorized ornamentation is prohibited. If any commencement official deems the attire to be inappropriate, the student will be asked to remove the unapproved item or the student may be denied participation in the commencement ceremony.
军事 Honor Cords are approved to veterans and active-duty service men and women in the armed forces, 国民警卫队, 和储备. For information about purchasing a cord, contact Veteran Services Director Lori Skarka, 在skarkala@hebhgkq.com, 308-865-8677.
学生 who are part of the 荣誉项目 or graduate with Latin honors may wear approved 徽章. Other academic honorary societies, learning communities, and recognized student organizations may wear approved 绳子 or 披肩 granted to them by these groups or departments. All 披肩 and 绳子 must comply with university standards and must be approved by the 毕业典礼 Committee. Stoles or 绳子 may be obtained directly from the respective organization or departments, or organizations or departments may contact the University Bookstore to order 绳子 or 披肩 for their members. The university retains sole discretion and authority to prohibit an item that is likely to cause a substantial disruption of, or material interference with, 颁奖典礼.
The faculty or staff sponsor of the student organization should provide written request outlining how the chapter meets the required guidelines by email to the Senior Advisor to the Chancellor for Executive Affairs at falconerj@hebhgkq.com. These requests should be sent at least 90 days prior to commencement in order to be placed on the agenda for consideration. The sponsor will be notified of the committee's decision following the meeting of the 毕业典礼 Committee, about five weeks prior to commencement.
